The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) expresses its strongest condemnation of the serious death threats directed against Colombian journalist Jean-Pierre Serna and his family, reportedly received through intimidating messages sent from abroad.
Threats against journalists constitute an unacceptable form of violence aimed at silencing critical voices, fostering self-censorship, and undermining the free exercise of journalism. Such acts gravely violate freedom of expression and the public’s right to be duly informed.
IAB urges the Colombian authorities to conduct a thorough, prompt, and effective investigation to identify and sanction those responsible, and to immediately adopt all necessary measures to guarantee the safety and integrity of the journalist and his family.
IAB expresses its solidarity with Jean-Pierre Serna and reaffirms that attacking a journalist is an attack on democracy itself.
