Rejection of the Detention of Chilevisión News Team in Venezuela

The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) strongly condemns the detention of a Chilevisión news team by Venezuelan intelligence agents on December 11 at the Francisco de Paula Santander International Bridge, on the border with Colombia.

The journalist, cameraman, and security staff were held incommunicado, had their mobile phones confiscated, were forced to reveal their access codes, and had journalistic material, including photos and videos recorded outside Venezuela, deleted.

These actions represent a serious violation of press freedom, the right to information, and international standards that protect journalists and media professionals.

The IAB calls for an immediate end to this type of harassment and urges the international community to remain vigilant in the face of the systematic violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Venezuela.
