IAB supports ABERT and warns of threat to freedom of expression in BRAZIL

The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) expresses its deep concern over the legal action brought by the Brazilian Federal Public Prosecutor's Office seeking to cancel the license of Rádio Jovem Pan.

The IAB emphasizes that the editorial autonomy of broadcasters is an indispensable requirement for the full exercise of journalism and for ensuring diversity of voices in society, which are essential elements of any democratic state governed by the rule of law.

Cancelling a broadcasting license is an extreme and unprecedented measure that seriously affects freedom of expression and undermines the legal security of the entire media system.

The AIR fully supports the position of its institutional member, the Associação Brasileira de Emissoras de Rádio e Televisão (ABERT), and urges the Brazilian judicial authorities to reject any disproportionate measure that undermines free and independent social communication.
