The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) welcomes the appointment of attorney Cristiano Lobato Flôres as the new Executive President of ABERT, announced on Thursday, August 28, in Brasília by the Superior Council of the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (ABERT).
This marks a historic transformation in the entity's governance. For the first time since its founding in 1962, ABERT shifts from a model led by broadcaster representatives to one headed by a seasoned executive with extensive institutional experience.
Cristiano Lobato Flôres served as ABERT’s Director General since 2018, after leading its legal department for five years. He actively participates in key regional broadcasting forums and is a current member of the IAB.
The new structure includes the creation of the Institutional Executive Committee, tasked with defining strategy and streamlining management. The committee will include, among others, Dr. Paulo Tonet Camargo, current President of the IAB, and Dr. Flavio Lara Resende, former ABERT President and current Chair of the IAB Legal Committee.
In his inaugural speech, Lobato Flôres emphasized that his administration will focus on excellence, ongoing dialogue, and institutional strengthening, with a business-oriented vision centered on innovation, competitiveness, and ethics.
The IAB congratulates ABERT on this important institutional milestone and expresses its full support for the new governance team, recognizing in its members a strong commitment to the values of free, pluralistic, and democratic broadcasting.
