Brazil officially launches TV 3.0 with the participation of IAB authorities

On Wednesday, August 27, the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, signed the decree regulating the official implementation of TV 3.0, the new generation of free, interactive broadcast television in the country.

The ceremony was held at the Planalto Palace and was attended by the Minister of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho; the President of the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (ABERT) and President of IAB Legal Committee, Dr. Flavio Lara Resende; as well as the President of the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB), Dr. Paulo Tonet Camargo, who represented the continental broadcasting community.

Brazil has become the first country in Latin America and the BRICS group to officially adopt this new technological standard based on ATSC 3.0. This will provide a more modern television experience with high-quality images and sound, full internet integration, additional features and greater interactivity.

During his speech, Dr Flavio Lara Resende stated: 'We are convinced that TV 3.0 is crucial for broadcast television to remain competitive, relevant and strong. This new generation will create an ecosystem capable of enriching the viewer's experience in an unprecedented way and definitively integrating broadcast TV into the digital economy”.

IAB celebrates this advance as a historic step for broadcasting in the region, reaffirming its commitment to innovation and freedom of expression through private, free-to-air media.
