105 Years of Broadcasting in Argentina: A Legacy that Inspires the Continent

The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) proudly celebrates the 105th anniversary of the birth of broadcasting in Argentina, a milestone that marked the beginning of an exemplary story of creativity, commitment, and public service.

On August 27, 1920, from the rooftop of the Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires, a group of pioneers, known as the legendary “madmen of the rooftop”, opened the airwaves to a new form of communication, giving rise to a radio that would soon become a global model for quality, diversity, and closeness to its audience.

Since then, Argentine radio has accompanied entire generations, chronicling history, reflecting culture, defending freedom of expression, and embracing each technological transformation without losing its deeply human essence.

On this important anniversary, IAB pays tribute to all the professionals and stations who have made this journey possible. The vitality, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to truth that define Argentine radio continue to inspire broadcasters across the Americas.
