IAB Condemns Aggression Against Journalists in Panama

The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) strongly condemns the aggression suffered by three Panamanian journalists, who were threatened and stripped of their equipment on Saturday, June 14, in the province of Bocas del Toro, Panama, while carrying out news coverage.

This incident constitutes a serious violation of freedom of expression and the public’s right to be informed. No form of violence can be tolerated against those who practice journalism. Freedom of expression and the safety of communicators must be protected at all times.

The IAB expresses its solidarity with the journalists affected and supports the strong condemnation expressed by the Panamanian Broadcasting Association. We also urge the Panamanian authorities to ensure an urgent and thorough investigation that leads to the punishment of those responsible and guarantees the conditions necessary for the full exercise of press freedom.
