On November 3 and 4, the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) held its 50th General Assembly in the city of Brasília, marking a historic milestone for the organization. We extend our special thanks to ABERT, institutional member and host of this important anniversary edition.
One of the most significant moments of the event took place on November 4, when the General Assembly unanimously approved the proposed reform of IAB’s Statute, updating the version in force since 2015.
The reform introduces key changes to Articles 26, 27, 32, and 34, and adds a new Article 30 BIS, which establishes two innovative institutional spaces: the Radio Chamber and the Television Chamber, alongside the creation of two new strategic vice presidencies: the Vice Presidency for Radio and the Vice Presidency for Television.
These Chambers will serve as exclusive spaces for thematic participation, one for radio companies and one for television companies. Their mission is to coordinate the analysis of technical, regulatory, commercial, and innovation-related matters within each sector. They will produce proposals, recommendations, and studies to be submitted to the Board of Directors for discussion and potential adoption.
Each Chamber will be led by its respective Vice President, who will be responsible for promoting ideas and creative solutions that address the real needs of IAB members.
With this reform, IAB deepens its institutional modernization process and reaffirms its historic commitment: to work in a professional, effective, and close manner with its affiliates, defending freedom of expression and promoting the development of private broadcasting throughout the Americas.
