On Friday, May 22, the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) held a new meeting of its Board of Directors in the city of Lima, Peru. IAB extends its gratitude to the National Society of Radio and Television (SNRTV) and to everyone who contributed to the success of this meeting.
The gathering also served as an opportunity to pay tribute to three individuals who have left a lasting mark on the history of our Organization.
Omar Sosa — Honorary Member
Recognized by the General Assembly in Brasília as an Honorary Member of IAB, Mr. Omar Sosa received in Lima the plaque symbolizing this distinction. For decades, he represented ANDEBU at the Organization’s Boards and Assemblies, leaving in each of them a legacy of honesty, professionalism and humility that those who worked alongside him will always remember.
Ana María Urrutia de la Lara — Defender of Freedom of Expression
As Chair of the Freedom of Expression Committee for more than twenty years, Ms. Urrutia de la Lara was during that period the leading voice of IAB in defense of members facing government persecution, including RCTV and Grupo Clarín. She currently serves as Board Member and Chair of the Strategic Planning and New Members Commission, demonstrating the same commitment that has characterized her throughout her institutional career.
Néstor Criscio — Technical Leader in Broadcasting
As head of the IAB Technical Committee for more than two decades, Eng. Criscio made fundamental contributions to the technical development of broadcasting in the Americas, the defense of the radio spectrum, and the technological modernization of the sector. His representation of IAB before the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), together with his participation in international debates on the future of radio and television, positioned the Organization within the forums where the rules of the industry are defined.
IAB celebrates the careers of these three members and invites new generations to follow their example in the work for private, free and independent broadcasting.
